How to do Motivational Interviewing – A Guidebook for Beginners by Bill Matulich

Our location

Pain Medicine Sydney has private rooms at the Prince of Wales Private Hospital in Randwick, and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Please note: the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital pain management clinic policy is that patients will see the next available specialist or fellow, so patients are not able to book in to see Dr Charlotte Johnstone specifically.

Who we see

Our private rooms are open to patients who are experiencing pain of any kind. We manage:

  • acute pain (less than 3 months duration)
  • chronic pain (more than 3 months duration)
  • cancer pain

If we are unable to treat patients ourselves, we may be able to refer them to specialists who focus on areas such as pain in the elderly, addiction medicine, neurosurgery or orthopaedic surgery.

Patients under the age of 18

Patients under the age of 18, or those who are still at school, generally require a specialist assessment from a family psychiatrist before they can make an appointment with one of our specialists. We recommend Dr Ann-Maree Bickerton who is a local paediatric psychiatrist.

Workers compensation

We see workers compensation cases (as long as approval has been given for us to see them). Third party patients are required to pay personally for a consolation and they may take the receipts to their lawyer.

About our pain management process

We believe pain is a whole body issue, and our process combines a variety of medical and holistic treatments in order to provide patients with the best chance of managing their pain and regaining their quality of life. Find out more about our fresh approach to pain management.
